Another type of kernel-mode driver supported by Windows 2000 is a filter-hook driver. A filter-hook driver, which is used to filter packets, extends the functionality of the IP filter driver supplied with operating system.
Regardless of the type of driver you will be writing, you should read Part 1, Chapters 2-3 of the Network Drivers Design Guide. These chapters discuss the Windows 2000 network architecture and programming considerations. You should also read Part 5, Chapter 1. This chapter discusses network INF files, which are used to install network components. If your network driver requires a notify object―for example, to control bindings―read Chapter 2 in Part 5, too. To find out which additional chapters to read, click the appropriate driver type in the following figure. This will jump you to a section that prompts you to further refine your choice of driver type. |
